December 11

Happy holidays, happy holidays, as the merry bells keep ringing, happy holidays to you!  And how happy our holidays have been, from Sanfilippo Awareness Day, to Thanksgiving, to Christmas preparation, we are filled with joy for the end of the year!

Happy Sanfilippo Awarness Day!  We celebrated with purple and a Spirit Night at Torchy's Tacos.

Showing some WILLPower at school!

"Where are my tacos??"

Excited for tacos!

WILLPower!

Pretty soon it was time to don our WILLPower regalia again, for our annual participation in the Run Thru the Woods races on Thanksgiving!  Little Buddy and Little Sister did the one mile again and did great!

Happy Thanksgiving! We are ready to race!

All smiles waiting for the race to start!

Go Little Buddy!

So dapper with his new medal!

After the race, it was time to EAT! Excited for all our Thanksgiving favorites!

We have so much to be thankful for!

For us, the end of Thanksgiving kicks off our Christmas celebrations.  We're normally so busy on the weekends leading up to Christmas, that Thanksgiving weekend is one of the few family times we can claim. This year was no exception as our elf returned, our decorations went up, and we hit a few Christmas activities!

Bring on Christmas!

Pat the Elf is back!

Time to decorate the tree!

We had so much fun at RenFest last year, we decided to go again this year for the Celtic Christmas! Sir Will loved his new hat!

Merry Christmas from RenFest!

The drive-thru Light Park is always a hit!

Got our matching outfits on so we could go see the big man himself, Santa!

Cooking and canning apple butter for teacher gifts!

So dapper for all his Christmas dress-up days...he fits into Daddy's collection of Christmas shirts and socks now!

Enjoying Pat's elf shenanigans!

Height and Weight
It's someone's half birthday today!  Hard to believe in 6 months we'll have a teenager, but it's true.  And thankfully he's gaining weight like one too...114.2 pounds!

Here's 12.5!

Personality
This happy, sunny boy.  How lucky we are to get all of these smiles!

He owns my heart.

Developmental Changes
It what can only be termed a Thanksgiving Miracle, Little Buddy got his full therapy services back! We had won the appeal for OT earlier in the month, but we were actually going to have to have a State Fair hearing to attempt to get his full physical therapy services back. As we were preparing for the hearing, we were automatically submitted for an external medical review. We just assumed we would be denied AGAIN and kept moving forward on our hearing only to receive word the the review found in Little Buddy's favor!  AND, they cited the recently published Global Sanfilippo Guidelines as the reason, a document spearheaded by the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation!  So gratifying not only to have someone take our son's needs seriously and give him what he needs and deserves, but for it to be a direct result of an initiative from the Foundation we support?    Words can't fully express how we feel.
This was a much needed win after a few other difficulties this month.  Firstly, Little Buddy started slowing down on eating again, making us very nervous!  He needs those calories! He was having texture issues and even seemed to have difficulty swallowing.  Thankfully, after about a week of slow eating and an awful teeth grinding noise and parent freak out, it seems that a loose tooth was to blame.  We think the tooth is now gone and he is back to his old hungry self!
It really seems that most of our worries about Little Buddy center around 2 things...eating and pottying.  We started having issues with him not having regular bowel movements.  He ended up needing laxatives and we worried he was going to need medical intervention going forward.  However, a week of charting showed us that what he really needs is more walking.  Fortunately, his school (which is awesome and really does work to help him) was able to hire some more aides which means Little Buddy is getting more one-on-one time and more walks.  That seems to have fixed the problem,  But it's never a dull moment here!

It's tiring putting your Momma into a panic all the time!

Fun Tidbits
Little Buddy's PT is wonderful and she and her family often come to WILLPower events. Her parents asked if there were any toys that our boy enjoyed and she told them how much he likes Rubik's Cubes. Low and behold, they came across a Christmas Rubik's Cube and got it for him.  So kind of them!

He loved it!

Looking forward to lots of Christmas magic in the coming weeks!

Good night,

LBM
