August 11

It's been quite a busy last month of summer, but we're packing all the things in before school starts!

First up was Little Buddy's port removal surgery.  This was a long time coming and was delayed due to COVID.  We finally got cleared and scheduled and, once at the hospital, were told there might be complications due his port having been in for 6 years.  Ay yi yi.  Thankfully, the procedure did go smoothly and they just needed to make one extra incision.  Little Buddy handled it like the champ he is.

Waiting to go back.

Sleepy boy in recovery.

Awake!

Let's get out of here!

Happy to be back home (even if he looks like he's recovering from a vampire bite)!

Smiles and doing well!

Still healing nicely!

But besides surgery and healing time, we otherwise pushed for some more summer memories!

Little Buddy enjoying some boat time with his best buddy, E!

A fun (but warm!) day checking out the animals and attractions at Old MacDonald's Farm!

Once Little Buddy got cleared to swim again after surgery, Daddy came and joined us at one of the local pools to celebrate!

Finally got a summer zoo trip in!

Some splash pad fun!

Going for walks by Town Greene and the Waterway are always the best.

All smiles after a day of nature walks and animal observations at the Spring Creek Nature Center and some fresh churned ice cream at Luliet!

But our BIG summer fun was a long beach weekend!  We can't tell you the last time we went on a trip just for us, not for a conference or a clinical trial or a family visit.  So lovely to get away and not have anything scheduled to do.  Little Buddy loved walking on the beach and standing in the waves!

Enjoying the view from our condo!

Sitting on the beach with Momma!

The smile someone has when he's managed to take the king bed for his own due to refusing to share it with an adult (and Little Sister got the queen bed to herself for similar reasons.  Daddy and Momma ended on the pullout couch.  Ay yi yi.).

Two miles a day of beach walking makes this boy happy!

Grateful for time together!

Height and Weight
This month he's at 94.2  pounds and officially 60 inches!  He's basically small adult sized now and I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

Oh this handsome boy!

Personality
We've been a lot louder lately and slightly agitated, but we honestly believe it's because he's getting sick of us and our faces, lol!  He's ready to go back to school.  But we're still getting lots of sweet, sweet smiles.

If we could just talk and sing to him every minute of every day, he'd be perfectly content.

Developmental Changes
Little Buddy has adapted to all of his new therapists and is doing well.  It's going to be a bit crazy later this month when school starts and I've got to pick him up every day to get him home for therapy, but hopefully he'll adjust to the knew routine quickly.  We've been really consistent with learning time this summer, so I'm hoping he'll show 'em his best stuff at school!

Enjoying his video lessons in his new iPad stand!

Fun Tidbits
Um...Little Buddy (being the amazing cool celebrity and all around great person that he is) was invited to throw out the first pitch at an Astros game!  How about that???  So amazing!

Hanging out in his custom jersey and warming up for the pitch!

Pep talks from Daddy about how to best pitch to the one and only Orbit!

The pitch!

Orbit signed the ball!

I honestly think Little Buddy was more excited about his time with Orbit than with anything else!

We were able to take the E family with us and it was awesome!

School starts here in a few days.  Our Covid numbers are high and we have a lot of fear for our medically complex little boy.  But, he needs school.  He needs his services and his teachers and his routine.  Praying he stays healthy and that we make the best decisions for him.

See you next month,

LBM
